Thinking at Twilight, 17 July 2019 with Dr André Cabrera Serrenho

Members gathered to hear Dr André Cabrera Serrenho visiting Sydney from Cambridge, talking on How frugal we need to become to mitigate climate change? Climate change mitigation requires urgent action across all human activities. Yet change has been slow and current climate targets will hardly be met. Current strategies have identified technological options to reduce emissions in the power sector and some options to reduce our demand for energy and materials. However, the scale of the challenge may require the reduction of our demand for energy and material services. Opportunities for travelling less or living in smaller homes have rarely been explored but the link between service demand reduction and wellbeing could unlock new opportunities for meaningful emissions savings with far-reaching social and economic implications.
