Annual Winter Feast, Wednesday 22 August 2018

Over 70 members and guests gathered to enjoy the Winter Feast and hear guest speaker fellow alumnus Michael Pembroke (Wolfson College) speaking on ‘Korea - How has this happened?’
Michael Pembroke is a writer, historian, naturalist and author. His book Arthur Phillip: Sailor, Mercenary, Governor, Spy became a television documentary and was short-listed for the Prime Minister’s Literary Awards and runner-up in the National Maritime Museum history award.
The research for Pembroke’s latest book, Korea, has taken him to Moscow, Beijing, Pyongyang, Washington DC, Princeton and Cambridge. In 2016, he travelled through North Korea from the Yalu River to the Demilitarised Zone.
He has been a judge of the Supreme Court of New South Wales since 2010. Educated at the Universities of Sydney and Cambridge (Wolfson 1955), in 2017 he was a Director's Visitor at Princeton University's Institute for Advanced Study. His father was an infantry platoon commander who was awarded the Military Cross in Korea.
